Apr 29th '08 - Ohau Opening Early for 2008 July Holidays
29th April 2008
Its back to the good old days for this years July school holidays at Ohau Snow Fields, thanks to the installation of extensive new snowmaking. Ohau has embarked on Stage 1 of a three stage plan to install snowmaking that will ensure extensive snow cover well in time for the July school holidays.
When the school terms were changed from three to four and the holidays moved from August to early July, we lost a key segment of our market, says Mike Neilson, managing director of Ohau Snow Fields. Our new snowmaking system will guarantee an early start to the season.

Ohau Snow Fields and Lake Ohau Lodge had previously enjoyed an iconic reputation for providing a skiing school holiday for nearly 40 years and it is Mike and Louise Neilsons dream to bring back those days for a new generation of skiing and boarding families.

Ohau have purchased a Kassbohrer Winch cat to complement their existing groomer which together will ensure there are plenty of groomed slopes, right from the start of the season.
Lake Ohau Lodge provides a wide range of accommodation which includes dinner, bed and breakfast in an alpine environment overlooking Lake Ohau. The great thing for families, says Louise Neilson, is that we offer a facility that brings people together in a great location, we deliver very good value and guests can be on the slopes in just 15 minutes from the Lodge.
With these new developments Ohau Snow Fields is scheduled to open on 28 June, a month earlier than previously.
