July 2nd '08 - Porters Terrain Park Update

2nd July 2008

With recent weather bringing snow to the Craigieburn range, and cooler temps favouring the Porters snow making team, the opening of Porters is nearing, along with its new Community Park.

The Porters Community Park has undergone a lot of development over the summer months including modification to some existing earthworks on T-Bar 1 laying the foundation for a solid park. To complete this 2 brand new fan snow-guns have been added in the park line. This brings the ability to get the entire park cranking with only a limited snow base, which when constructed could allow riders to hit up to 8 features in a single run with 3 different lines almost all the way down T-bar.

In recent months the crew have been busy building & preparing new features to work with the ground lay. With these new features it brings our total count to 16, with more to come throughout the season. Features we have ready to go include our new 3.6m x 2.4m wallride, 7.8m battleship box, 7m down/flat/down rail, 7m down bar and an 8m A frame rail.

We have a good stock of traditional jibs now, along with a few creative jibs. We hope to release a different new jib every couple weeks throughout the season by regularly switching things up. We have a few random items to work on already & some quietly ready to go but would also like input from other riders out there. If you have something lying around at home, work or wherever that you reckon might make a good jib, then email park@skiporters.co.nz with your idea & a photo of your jib, if the crew think itll work & can make it jibable well do our best to make it happen to add to our collection of creative jibs, bringing in the feel to the new Porters park title, The Community Park.

The inception of the Park last year brought a real community feel. People put in effort off their own backs, support came from within the industry & the August 25th Jib Jam brought a really positive feeling from park riders for the first time at Porters, It was how shredding should be relaxed & fun!

So the Community Park title has been adopted & we intend to deliver this relaxed & fun vibe on a bigger scale this year. Opening date is set for Thursday 3rd July, from now until then the park team will be pounding away getting some lines ready & rideable for the weekend we intend to deliver from the get go & are keen to take input from everyday riders out there.

Also keep an eye on the newly dedicated Park page on our website to see to see whats new, when things change & general park updates, event info & news. A big Thanks to the community park sponsors, Winnie Bagoes pizza, Underground Coffee, Groovstar clothing, CHOP & the community

Come join the Community.

July 4th '08 - NZsnowboard.com Mission : Coronet's Redemption

It was a good start at Coronet for the season for about 3 days, then it all turned to crap. A few days of warm weather and high wind pretty much killed what base we had, but now they are back up and running and looking good. A day through the lens with Vaughan Brookfield.
