Jun 19th '09 - Jake Koia Interview

19th June 2009

Tell us how you first got started with Endeavor..
It started out slow at first and I'm sure they probably didn't think I would go as far as I did with them but they soon got it and understood what I was trying to achieve. I think they just generally believed in me and I made some really good friends that helped me out over the years. I filmed with a few different crews including Wildcats, Standard and Sandbox and I worked a lot with photographer Scott Serfas. We managed to get some really good images published in Transworld and some European magazines so but its been good for both parties. It's a shame I left but feel it was something that was unavoidable and the right decision for me at this time.

Is there anything different that you would have done?

No. I pretty much did anything that was asked of me and we both did our best to hold our ends.

Has this move changed your goals or priorities in snowboarding?
Definitely not. I'll still be working with the same people and Max, Scott and I are all friends so it's all good. The only thing that changed is the board under my feet. I am thinking of trying some different things next year but it will all depend on film opportunities. I might look at more TTR events but I'm not sure, I have a while to get things sorted and I just want to get through the southern hemisphere season first. I do think it's getting increasingly hard to try and be just a video snowboarder you know? It seems like if your not filming for a major production no one really cares but times change and I'm going to try and do whatever it takes to keep snowboarding for a living.

So where to from here?
That's the question.. I'm not really too stressed right now. I want to give things a little time and make sure I make the right decision and I have the right company's behind me. Sorry I have nothing set in stone with any new company as of yet but I am currently trying a YES snowboard..

And tell us about this music stuff.....

Not much to tell really. When I left Endeavor they done a little press release that was pretty funny and I guess jokingly made me out to be some kind of producer.  lol. I'm not but I wish i was. I broke my ankle when I was in Japan filming with Sandbox, Friday February 13th a very unlucky day. I'd actually just received an Arctic Challenge invite that morning and decided I'd leave the Japan trip early and go so that really pissed me off. But anyway as you can imagine I had a lot of time on my hands so went back to Canada, brought logic express and a midi keyboard and got my soulja boy on for a few months.

You amping for the season. What you gonna be up to?
Really pumped on this season lets hope its a good one. I want to do the Burton Open, Winter games, Stylewars and maybe another event in Australia. I'm also going to do a shoot with Red Bull at some stage not sure what yet. But yeah just work on getting a bunch of web content together and just shred a lot more with friends. We have such a short season with all the events and other things that's all I usually feel like doing but now I've had this time off i want to spend a lot of time riding with the bros and learning new shit.

Last words........

Big shout out to Oakley, Redbull, ........snowboards, Flux Bindings, Grenade gloves, Mons Royal and Snow Park NZ.

Jun 19th '09 : Featured Product - Salomon Sanchez Snowboard

The pure twin tip Sanchez with its buttery flex is a favorite of our pros. The rubber layers of the SWS inserted under your feet will take care of the impact from bomb drops and rail assaults and it might just be the last board you buy before living the dream of the sponsored rider.
