Aug 4th '09 : The Cheapskates & CUBA Jib the Foundry Night
4th August 2009
It was nine oclock as my trusty yellow steed and I approached the far
end of Ilam Fields. Already, I could hear the distant beats and
cajoling cheers resounding from The Foundry. It sounded like this
years jib was going to be no different from any other: cranking. So I
peddled faster.

Thanks to CUBA, and some snow from Porters Pass, this years jib saw
54 riders grinding and sliding a down-box and a down-rail in front of
a packed beer-fuelled crowd. A prize pool and giveaways worth around
$2000 meant that riders were out to impress.
The Foundry was packed to capacity (1100 - 1200 people) and a line
of 300 people outside that stretched out to the road and around the
corner. I asked CUBA man Simon Cotter how he thought the night went.
It was epic. The best night The Foundry has seen in ages. Well, he
would say that, right? But with an intake of around $17,000, he cant
have been far wrong.
