Mar 19th '10 : NZSBU and SSNZ Appoint New Sport Manager

Wanaka, New Zealand - New Zealand Snowboard Union (NZSBU) President Robett Hollis and Snow Sports New Zealand (SSNZ) CEO Ross Palmer today announced the appointment of Mel Simmons as the NZSBUs new sport manager.
Simmonss appointment marks a significant step forward for the NZSBU with a commitment to a dedicated manager for the sport of snowboarding to drive programmes and initiatives that will help grow the sport at all levels.
Mel is one of the world's top freestyle snowboarding judges, said Hollis. But thats just the beginning. She knows the snowboard industry inside out, and has enormous credibility within the industry, nationally and internationally. The NZSBU board and the sport are fortunate to have her skills, dedication and passion working on our behalf."
Simmons will focus on implementing the NZSBUs current initiatives with a priority placed on development opportunities for competitive snowboarders in New Zealand. Simmons has already set about to work with resorts, training providers, coaches, officials and other stakeholders in the snowboard community to begin delivering snowboarding programmes encompassing each snowboarding discipline across all age divisions, both nationally and internationally.
The NZSBU and Simmons are also aiming to drive participation in snowboarding at the recreational level, offering all New Zealand snowboarders the opportunity to be involved in programmes such as "Ride With a Pro" days that will be free to the public this season.
Having a dedicated sport manager for snowboarding is a big step forward for the NZSBU and for Snow Sports New Zealand, said Palmer. Some of the best riders in the world are Kiwis, and with Mel in place, well be able to better support these riders, while also aiding in the growth of the sport.
The NZSBUs goal is to positively promote the sport of snowboarding within New Zealand, and to assist top level riders to achieve the highest results attainable at an international level.
Snow Sports New Zealand is the official governing body and National Sports Organisation representing snow sports in New Zealand. The New Zealand Snowboard Union (NZSBU) is a member of Snow Sports New Zealand. NZSBU is a non-profit organization that is managed in large part by a group of dedicated volunteers.
