I slept in the playgrond once. It was dope. Woke up to a million dollar view of the mountain and a pie. Mean. Think the bar staff gave us a free beer or two for it as well haha. Playground it is

I second the playground. The Snake Run fits with contours of my body. Snug...

If you are hitting Whakapapa as well you could give slalom lodge in Rarimu a go. Matt who runs the place is choice and its cheap! about $24 for a night and all facilities that boarders need

Slalom Lodge is the goods! Raurimu is a nice place too. You know, your average shotgun toting town.

We owned the farm just off the top of the hill and the whole road washed away and smashed a house taking out some poor dude at the same time. Debris still remains now... :(

The Hobbit Motor Lodge perhaps? $40 Bunk beds I think.
Or maybe the PowderHorn Chateau...

Check out the Top 10 Holiday park in Kune, run by a friendly German couple (just don't get on their bad side haha) it's cheap as chips and they have the pimpest powderkeg-style bathroom and showers you've ever seen for that kinda money.

I had a problem finding a place to stay a few weeks ago (all left to the last minute of course). We ended up staying in Taumaranui for the first night becouse of it.

I had trouble finding a good site which listed all the accommodation places easily so I could just call them one by one. So just recently I made up a guide for me and my friends to use for the next time we are stuck for a place to crash by the mountain.

www.ohakuneaccommodationguide.co.nz is what we came up with. It might help you out next time you are looking for a place to stay.

Hi,
just wondering if anyone wants to work out some accommodation in Ohakune this season? I got a job on Turoa starting around the 29th June so will prob head to Ohakune on the 20th for a few days of boarding before I start.
Let me know if anyone wants to rent a house or has a spare room.
Cheers
Steph
