DO NOT SHOP AT HB CITYBOARDS. I have previously shopped there in the past, and spent well over $500 in this store. I'm a keen snowboarder, and have always gone there to view, if not buy goods. Last weekend they towed my car which was legally parked outside their premises.
DO NOT SHOP AT HB CITYBOARDS - The manager was rude and put the phone down on me while I was talking to him, and the sales staff were cocky and unhelpful. They tow away their customers.
If you were looking for advice with snowboards, or gear go to R & R, or Barry's Point Rd in Takapuna, and I guarantee you will get by far better service there than you would at HB Cityboards.

Hey dude, yeah I'm 100 % sure it was Cityboards, as I went into the shop, and asked where my car was! The manager - Rick Lasch had called a tow company, and I phoned him asking him why he did it etc and we had an argument, and he consequentially hung up on me.
Pretty shit service all round from HB Cityboards, Nuffield ST, Newmarket.

HI everyone,
After reading her post above I feel that we have the right to respond. After all there are two sides to every story.
Your car was parked in one of our free customer parks on Saturday. This also happens to be our busiest day of the week. Now we are normally cool about people parking there and if you come in and give us a heads up like "hey I am popping down the road I will be back to shop here later on" we would not have minded. On this occasion you however pulled up, parked and walked off down the st. When I called out "excuse me" you just kept on walking. At this point I made the call to let you park there for half an hour and then call the tow truck as you were taking up parking for people who wanted to shop. The tow truck arrived approximately 45 mins after you parked and towed your car. You came back into the store about ten minutes after this.
Now your argument about I have spent over $500 in that shop and therefore should be entitled to park there is just ridiculous. How were we supposed to know that you were coming back to shop with us? Does that mean that you should be entitled to free parking there for life now? Also during your argument with me and the other sales staff in the shop you said "normally you guys put a note on my car saying if you park here again you will be towed". This makes me think that you have used our parking spots at other times without shopping with us. This time I guess your luck just ran out. There is also a sign posted on the fence saying that this is a reserved parking zone and we will tow people away. This time we enforced it.
I know the towing fee to get your car out is steep. In other communications with us you point out that this is not fair as you are a student and that is a lot of money. In parking there you took up a space for another customer that may have not stopped as there were no parks. Who knows they might have bought a snowboard worth a thousand dollars. From this point of view the tow away rule is worth enforcing.
As for the staff being cocky, I guess thats we just don't enjoy being yelled at and having $180 demanded from us for release of your car. Fair enough don't you think? No one likes being yelled at for doing their job.
As for blasting us on a public snowboard forum and claiming we give bad service as we towed your car is well frankly a bit of a raw deal. We are constantly commended on our customer service and we make sure we put in the extra effort when it comes to sales of snowboards and everything else associated with the sport. You will be surprised how many shops don't detune boards, rotate high backs or even set bindings up for free. These are just some of the services we do here for free so the customers can get sliding on the hill properly.
SO we are sorry if you choose not to shop with us again. Hope you have a good winter.
Cheers
Tom @ City Boards
P.S. EVERYONE, IT IS SWEET TO PARK IN OUR PARKS JUST LET US KNOW YOU ARE COMING BACK INTO THE SHOP LATER ON AND THIS SITUATION CAN BE AVOIDED IN THE FUTURE!

City boards are all good. From my experiences I've had friendy and helpful staff there every time and I'll bet their response is factual. And so others know, you have to pay if you want to park on the street where this shop is. Explains the limited carparking.

Tom's recollection is ofcourse bias from HB Cityboards point of view.
To be fair, yes I have shopped there in the past and received good service, but I also have shopped their in the past and received poor service. Hence why I know of other great places like R & R and a few on Barry's Pt Rd.
Cityboards point of view, is very much from the victim stance, as they feel they did the right thing, for the right of all other customers. Ofcourse if I thought there would have been a problem I would NOT have parked there. And, for the record - I NEVER heard them shout out to me once I parked there.
ALSO, Cityboards have ignored all my other forms of contact, and now twist it and use it in this forum as it suits them to show the 'good' side of Cityboards as someone is now questioning them, and have every right to do so.
There is only one tow away sign, which is on the far right hand side, and does not have an arrow like the proper City Council sign showing the allocated parks that are subject to tow aways.
The manager was completely rude to me on the phone, and hung up on me while I was still talking to him, which is why I feel, as a past customer and someone who has recommended Cityboards in the past that I have been given a raw deal and was treated poorly.
Cityboards definately were not great to deal with at all, and seemed to want to have made an example out of me. I just felt that I needed to expose this as other people who may park there or go there may get treated unpoorly as I have with them.
If I did feel that this was reasonable and just I wouldn't have posted on here, but the situation was not that. I was ripped off by Cityboards, who ignored all my further contact over the weekend, and ignored my email I sent to them yesterday. That, in cosequence, has led to this.

And, no I have not used your carparks in the past.
And it is I who got the raw deal, not Cityboards. It definately is NOT the way you go about treating customers, and no I wasn't yelling. It is you who ended the ph conversation with me.
If you'd like to pursue this, why don't you contact me? You have my number on your phone from the times I tried to contact you, but you ignored.

Haha. I think the point is that RV parked in their customer park on a busy day and walked off. How were they to know if you were going to come back and shop with them at this point? Get over it, it's your fault man. Trying to defame a shop as a resut of your own poor judgement.. not cool.

Just buy a snowboard from CITY sb or r&r or Snow centre , drive down to ruapehu where you will find enormous amounts of snow at the mo (first they have to dig out chairlifts and lifties) ,Strap board to feet and RIDE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT, and everythings gonna be allright, Forget about Auckland carparks, Parking in Auckland is going to be a big problem 4 ever. get over it. Peace.

RV White you are a cock. If your profile pic is any indication of how you ride then christ, your opinion on a snowboard forum is about as worthy as a blind man commenting on how great that chicks titties look.
Student, (cheap ass) you are obviously all about money. Being broke, claiming $500 of spend a few years ago. Epic times. Maybe you are all about YOUR money, as you decided not to use the pay parking around the corner at 277 (where you were probably shopping), or on the road 3 metres in front of and therefore block access to City Boards sales by using up their space for 45 minutes.
In theory, you are stealing from them, using their property for YOUR convenience and denying their customers access.
And then getting pissed off about it.
Good fucken work.
Maybe you should have spent that $500 on glasses to see the TOW AWAY sign.
What a whinger, you got caught taking the piss, so fucken deal with it.

Sure, I'll be straight up - seeing that its the 'kiwi' way. After reading all of the comments, it has emphasized the level of immaturity that exists in our youth and generation. It is very sad to see that most of the comments have been from such a subjective viewpoint.
And this has once again made be happy that I'm not an inherent New Zealander, as you all have emphasized a significant amount of rude-ness and just general disregard of public opinion. I'm so stoked I'm not part of the snowboard scene, you guys all suck. Seriously.
Definitely not a democratic forum at all, how ironic. Respect those who post opinions to warn others and respect free thought. To those of you who attempted to call me names etc, you're sad. You don't even know me. How judgemental - you wouldn't find that in a snowboarding scene in a country where people respect each other. You suck, and obviously have nothing better to do, I had seriously forgotten about it.
Anyway, I only registered to come on to this site and post my opinion, so thank god I'm not part of this scene, you all seem like a bunch of w*nkers.
Bye!

High five City boards, this girl deserves to be towed. The "NZ Snowboard Scene" just got better since RVWhiNe is going back to 220cm straight skis or monoboard and mullet. Judgemental? Read what you just wrote about our 'scene'. I'm the competition, and I think City Boards does a great job. Suck a fat one, and pay the tow charge.

Wow. This is insane.
A person gets busted taking advantage of another, complains on a forum trying to advise other potential customers of her experience.
Those potential customers then tell her she is wrong, and good job.
She then complains about not having free speech, the forum not being democratic and people being immature because they are calling her out and backing their own opinions based on both sides of the story.
She writes her story in an eloquent way, reminiscent of the early year university students who learn a little bit and think that their insight on the world is now so different and better than everybody elses.
And remember young student, judgement on this website has been solely based on how you have represented yourself through your posts and that neat photo that you use on your profile.
The icing on the cake is claiming that she is glad shes not a kiwi and part of the so called NZ snowboard scene. On a NZ Snowboard scene based website.
Heres my opinion. In the most immature, proud to be from New Zealand way I can tell you.
GET FUCKED.

Hey I'm Irish for God's sake. I'm halfway to being a Kiwi and I'm indescribably stoked on being part of the Kiwi snowboard scene. It's amazing. I came here 4 years ago unable to link my turns and now, well I still suck, but I have the best crew of friends I could wish for; a whole bunch of really awesome people who are generous, supportive and selfless.
I can't get over this loser. She parked her car in a specific shop's car park, fucked off shopping elsewhere for the guts of an hour without a word to the staff and is then surprised when her car is towed? Seriously? Are you actually for real? And she thinks that she shouldn't be towed because she may have spent UP TO $500 in an unspecified amount of time. Cop on and join the real world honey.
I bet she's the kind of chick who comes into a shop spends an hour trying e v e r y t h i n g in the shop on, leaves it in a heap on the change room floor and then asks for a discount because she's buying 2, yes count them, two t-shirts.
Who cares if you're a student. Most of us live in snowboard towns, struggle to get jobs, earn shit money, and have to deal with ignorant fools like you on a daily basis! We're broke too and the sooner you learn that and lose your 'woe is me I'm a poor student' attitude the better you'll be 'cos you've probably got a hell of a lot more money than a lot of us. We spend our money going snowboarding!
As for joining a Snowboard Community for the sole purpose of bagging a shop that's just doing their job, you disgust me. You blatantly have no interest in the community, you just wanted to be a bitter arseh*le. If you had spent a little time getting to know us you would realise that we hate on all losers and ignorant f*cks equally :-)

For the record I'm not ATTEMPTING to call you names, I'm stating for a fact that you are indeed and ignorant f*ck. I'd also like to point out that you have a hissy fit for everyone calling you out on your lies and say we can't judge you because we don't know you, yet that is exactly what you go on to do to us in your very next sentence. WTF? That makes you judgemental, a hypocrite and an idiot, HA! I bet if this message had been posted on snowboard.com about an american shop you would have a hell of a lot worse replies, give it a shot if you don't believe me...
So nice to see the back of you, don't let the door hit you on the way out.......

Yo Olive, dont know where your rant on war crimes came from but best probably leave it out.
Definitely more on the whole ignoring tow away signs and having a cry about it. That stuff is great. My mind still boggles at this chick who got towed. Not the brightest human by any stretch of the imagination.

Hello everyone,
After some password troubles I have managed to get back online.
Ah yes the wrath of the like minded snowboard community. I thought the response to her posts might be something like this. It made me chuckle to myself when she threatened to slag off the shop. Guess she found out what everyone else thinks!
In response to your query about the sign not being a proper city council tow away sign, these are private car parks. Hell, we could put a sign the size of a postage stamp on the fence if we wanted. But we do have a clear sign posted on the fence. Each and every car park is stenciled with our logo. You are the first person to think that these parks were not clearly marked as reserved for customers and a tow away zone.
Also you were not made an example of. We have towed people in the past for doing the same thing. Only they could see that they were wrong and were even apologetic instead of getting hyped up and mad and lashing out on the internet. Once again tow away signs are not there for decoration. Maybe next time it is best to heed the warnings or communicate with us telling us your intentions. Then this would never have happened!
In regards to the "if you want to pursue this matter further why don't you contact me" comment, what is left to pursue? We towed away your car as you were parked in our car parks, did not come into the shop or let us know you were coming back. Job done. As far as we are concerned the matter is closed.
If anything this thread has been thoroughly entertaining.
See you all on the hill!
Cheers
Tom @ City Boards
