Hey man.
Definitely live in Wanaka, way more relaxed and chilled out vibe... Queenstown is great if you're a tourist (which I guess you will be), but you get pretty sick of the chaos that ensues in that town every winter pretty quick.
Wanaka is way nicer...
Resort wise I would recommend Cardrona/ Snowpark if you're into park or Treble Cone if your more into free riding. Season passes at TC are horrendously expensive though... like about $1400 I believe (check their website for a more accurate price).
Job wise I would try and line something up beforehand, but that could be tricky... never hurts to try though.
Also try and line up some accomodation before you land as trying to find a flat in Wanaka in the silly season is like finding the proverbial sewing device in the proverbial pile of dry grass.
Cool man any more info required drop us an email john <*at*> thegreenroom.org.nz
Peace!

Yeah Wanaka or QT are probably your best be for the whole package. If you do settle in one place a road trip is a must. The south island is littered with club fields, some with awesome terrain and all with a wicked atmosphere. If you get sick of tight pants, fluro gear and the general BS, that can sometimes get in the way of a good days shredding, get in your car and check out the clubbies.
