i brought a planet earth gt jacket from a local shop back in dec. had only been up the ruapehu maybe 4 times this season and then noticed the stiching on the left side seam had come undone.

took it into place i purchsed it from, and they have now called back and said its wear and tear. its not even a high stress area. its my first season and im not doing huge jumps or coming off at HIGH speed. the jacket still looks brand new. i

what are my options? i dont wana be a prick to the staff in the shop as i get the impression its not them, its the supplier. i could take it to a talior or sumthing and get it fixed but its not even a year/season old and it had a retail of $560 (purchased on special for$300) so i expected it to at least see the season out.

any ideas guys?

Hey bro, who did you buy it through? If the jacket didnt come with some kind of manufacturers warranty your probably fucked. If it's nothing major just take it to a seamstress and get it repaired, it would probably cost you $20....

got it through surf and snow. the dome on my ripcurl pants also came off and they are getting them replaced, so im happy bout that.

i know it will be repairable through a seamsress, and if it comes to that i will, but at the reatil price of the jacket im not happy. i just jumped on their website (planet earth) and sent the customer services dept an email but as they are in the states im not expecting much from it.

was just hoping i had some other options. if not, oh well, off to the yellow pages to let my fingers do the walking for a seamstress..

Consumer guarantees act.

Manufacturers warranties aside, a retail outlet has to ensure that any product they sell is fit for its purpose. If it shits itself within 12 months of purchase, the consumer guarantees act will usually cover it. Only fools bother with warranty within 12 months. A lot of retailers aren't big on letting you know about it, but they should have a folder with all the relevant info (for both them and you) under the counter. I had some boots that had the stitching bust after 8 months of ownership and the shop I got them from sussed it under the consumer guarantees act.

consumer.org.nz should have all the info you need.

In april at the beggining of the year i brought a pair of Burton Moto Boots, after a week at mt hutt i noticed that the stitching at the front of the boots were coming loose and water was getting into my boot. I took the boots back to snowcenter in Auckland and got them sent back to HigherGround in chch. They reterned the boots back to me saying it was " wear and tear", i rekon this was a little bit bullshit and am doing research on the net to see what i can do about it. Snowcenter kept pointing the finger and the manufacturer, but in the Fair trading act says they cannot do this and are responsible for the product. what should i do from here??

i was told by one of the reps at my work that the retailer has to deal with it if the supplier wont, so start throwing around "fair trading act this and that" and see what they say. it should be warrentyied for 12mths so if they dont repair ask for a refund and go elsewhere.
