A few mates have been chatting about this over Xmas, and man it made sense then-probably cause we were all pissed at the time. But I did say I would post.

A NZ Maori Snowboard Association. We noticed last season a few young Maori on the slopes and well I have like five nephews keen to learn the sport and two have only been a few times but hooked and naturals...we think creating an association to support young Maori talent, develop coaches and instructors etc is the way to go.

Is this already being done? any comments?

Isnt it a bit racist having an association where membership is based on race?
I imagine if a similar thing was to be set up for only any other race all hell would break loose.

Yeah teams selected on race are the sort of Racist Bullshit snowboarding dosnt need!!! Snowboarding is about hanging with your mates and politics should not get involved, lets push all yound riders to get better not just Maori or Pakeha.

Yeah I don't think the guy who wrote the first post was aiming for this to be racist in any way. I think he's kind of interested in getting more young Maori into snowboarding because they are more of a minority when it comes down to it. I mean it would be all cool if he wanted to do this if possible, not as a racist move, but just to get more people snowboarding. That's what I think. Coz it doesn't matter if you're black or white.

snowboarding has nothing to do with race , teams ,groups or gangs.

Racist...? I find that hard to believe! Maori are the indigenous people of NZ, stop being narrow minded. I attended a Maori school and most of my class mates have never seen the snow let alone touched it. To have a program in place would give those a chance to realize what snowboarding is all about and get some of the kids off the street. I remember asking a crew from Toa what they got up to in the week end..."Oh we Jacked some Cars," Laughing away, I was thinking what!. Itd be a good way to get peeps of the street and focusing their energy on the good stuff.

Christian surfers/SFC, girls clubs, university clubs. all encouraging minority (in terms of participation) groups to go snowboarding which (sarcastic tone applies from here) Must be bigoted, sexist and elitist. (end of sarcasm).

Why not have it? Encouraging people to go shred is the name of the game, esp when traditionally this sport costs shitloads to get into. More support the better.

Ill only join if theres boil up at the meetings though.....
