I'm currently in my last year at school and i'm really keen to go and do a gap year to Canada and work on a mountain before going to uni..
Does anyone know ways get jobs on mountains over there without going through all these expensive exchange programmes where you pay $600 to get amjob.
Also anyone got suggestions for a legoit mountain with good night life, people, and riding aswell as parks! :)
any feedback appreciated
:D

the easiest way is to fill out the online application. Or email the head of the department directly.
It helps to know someone who has worked at and has a good reputation the mountain you want to go to, and they can support you, but it's not nessecary.
Basically all mountains have a good night life. Even the small ones. The smaller ones have a community night life, sure there's no clubbing but getting on the piss with your mates at the pub is sweet. Besides, drinking age in B.C is 19, so if you're fresh outta college and not 19 yet, you'd be better off at a smaller mountain pub as they are more relaxed about serving their own staff/locals underage.
Get your visa sorted, then apply and let them know you already have an arrival date around November 20th so they think you're legit and not going to bail out, and then just hope.
Big White and SilverStar are owned by the same guy, he's an aussie and likes to hire lots of aussies/nz'ers from what I hear.

done a few season over that way now and what was previously said wont really help you from my experience and alot of other peoples. even if you email them they will still say come see us when you get hear instead of sure you got a job. as long as you got a little bit of cash you can roll up and score a job in most mountain towns the couple weeks before the hill opens. that $600 is worth it depending on where you wanna go if you do it through iep. you get a job and somewhere to stay and don't need to roll into the place until pretty much the day before you start work so no down time blowing your cash

Get over it bro. This is the experience of myself and friends, it's just as credible as yours, bud.
I have a mates who rocked up to almost every resort from Vancouver to Calgary and never got a job at a mountain. That's only a good way to go if you have a lot of money, just in case you don't end up with a job the entire season. Your other option there is that you can try for a job around town.
You also have to remember that rarely will a mountain get back to you if you are unsuccessful for a job.
Yes, a lot of resorts like to have face to face interviews, usually because they want to make sure you actually show up and are in the country. However there are resorts that will hire you without the interview and will even do phone interviews. You application and interview really need to look and sound the part though. Make sure they know you have everything sorted and booked to be there, don't leave them any doubt that you may not turn up!
There's no one way to get a job. That's how I did it, that's how my mates have done it. I've heard from mates they got jobs that way in past seasons, however jobs are getting low in Canada these days. Unemployment is high and everyone is looking for work, where better to go than the ski industry? Little experience is needed for most jobs and as soon as winter hits, a bunch of jobs open up and the applications flood in.
Definitely try and get a job before you leave, or at least hook up interviews for when you get into the country. But if you head over with no secure job, make sure you have coin... just in case.
