I think that with the quality that digital offers nowadays its just way more practical to shoot digital, way easier to process and cheeper in the long run. but saying that if your shooting for a massive billboard its gotta be slides.

Digi for Sequences

Medium format for Billboards and mean quality


They are all better than each other in certain ways !

For B & W, nothing beats a decent 35mm SLR, & many rolls of Illford 400. Some of my 'better' shots, have just been done with either a 2.1 mp or a 4.1 mp camera.
Pending on what kind of effect you are after, go for more a higher optical zoom, than a digital zoom, as it'll help keep the finished shot in 'contrast', rather than have the centered pixals distorting...
