South Island - Mount Dobson
With regular snowfalls on its peaks and across the wide open slopes, Mt Dobson offers a fun skiing and snowboarding experience for everyone.
Mount Dobson Ski Area turnoff is situated 11km's west of Fairlie township on the main Christchurch / Queenstown Highway. The access road is a wide smooth mountain road arguably the easiest alpine road in New Zealand. There is plenty of level parking at the base facilities and shuttle service is available weekends and holidays.
Facilities include a warm cafeteria, ski and snowboard rental, ski patrol and ski/snowboard school
Mount Dobson is owned and operated by the Foote Family who have made it their commitment to make this the friendliest ski area around. With regular snowfalls on its peaks and across its wide open slopes, Mt Dobson offers a fun skiing and snowboarding for everyone. It is well suited to families, beginners and intermediates, but high above the groomed slopes there is soft smooth powder to challenge the best skiers and snowboarders.
There is a good range of quality boots and poles for hire, and with the increasing popularity of snowboarding, additional boots and boards are now available for hire. They offer a limited stock of carver skis - come and give them a try for a special experience.
Ski school offers lessons for all grades of skiers/ snowboarders. Jane Stevens, Ski School Director also offers lessons for disabled skiers. "We make learning and improving very easy and affordable with Mt Dobson Easy Packs." These includes lift ticket, equipment hire and lessons at a specially discounted price package price for learners, intermediates and snowboarders.
Location:
The access road turn off is ten kilometres west of Tekapo on Highway 8 on the right. It is an unsealed road, 10km's long, with a shuttle service from the toll gate.
