Rice Looking to Take Out Haakonsen in TTR Quarterpipe

23rd November 2008

In an interview with the Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet last week, this seasons snowboarding superstar Travis Rice (USA) declared his intentions to take out two of the upcoming 6Star events on the Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour, the Nissan X-trail Jam in Tokyo 2009 and the Oakley Arctic Challenge in Oslo. These two epic  6Star events always boast big rider lists and even bigger tricks, and with Rice on board they are set to be more banging than ever.

Terje going huge at the Arctic Challange

The first Mens 6Star event for the Swatch TTR season, the Tokyo Nissan X-Trail Jam, will be going down December 13th - 14th 2008 in Tokyo where  Rice is frothing at the prospect of taking out snowboard legend, Terje Haakonsen (NOR) on the monster Quarterpipe.  Oh yeah, I'm going to Tokyo in a month to compete with the best. I've heard Terje is going there, too. Then it will be hard to win, but I will do what it takes to beat him, says Rice in Dagbladet.  Besides Terje, the event will also host the crme de la crme of international snowboarding with Kevin Pearce (USA), Chas Guldemond (USA), Sebastien Toutant (CAN) and several Japanese Wildcards all signed on, as Rice said Its going to be a battle of nations.

Rice is also hoping for an invitation to Haakonsens own event, The Oakley Arctic Challenge, a contest that has seen him take out top honours twice already. I've put TAC in my season plan. TAC is a fantastic contest, and I've won it before. If Terje wants me there, I will be there, and I will try to win it, of course. I like Norway a lot and I'm looking forward to coming back, says Rice.

Two time Arctic Challange winner Travis Rice

Rice, 26, was in Norway promoting his new film Thats It, Thats All, a film project that saw him committing a lot of time for the last two seasons to filming and getting shots, but with that now wrapped up he is focusing more time on events, maybe even going after the Swatch TTR title that has so far eluded him.  I am so looking forward to the coming to the Nissan X Trail Jam...Ive been getting ready, training, because I know the rookies, young guns and Japanese riders are going to be coming up, he said to Dagbladet.

With Rice already committing to several big TTR events, a host of young riders chasing the title and new events in the pipeline, the Swatch TTR Tour is set to be epic this season, so stay tuned to www.ttrworldtour.com for updated rankings, breaking news, blogs and sick videos as the big events get closer and the title race heats up.
