Largest order of snow groomers heading for New Zealand’s slopes

19th February 2009

The largest single order of snow groomers in New Zealand history is making its way to the slopes of the countrys premier ski areas ahead of the 2009 snow season.

Seven state-of-the-art Kassbohrer PB600 & PB400 series cats from Piston Bully in Germany are due to arrive in May and will further enhance skiing and riding conditions at Coronet Peak, Mt Hutt, and The Remarkables.

James Coddington, CEO of NZSki Ltd said the groomers would compliment the existing snow making operations at all three mountains.

The new machines are larger and more sophisticated making it easier for staff to groom trails across a wide range of terrain, he said. Skiers and riders of all levels will discover an increased quality of snow surface translating to an optimum ski or riding experience.

The addition of a Kassbohrer Pisten Bully PB600w and two Kassbohrer Pisten Bully PB400 machines at Mt Hutt means the ski area will have New Zealands most modern and extensive grooming fleet.

Coronet Peak will receive Kassbohrer Pisten Bully PB600w and Kassbohrer Pisten Bully PB600 machines whilst The Remarkables will add two Kassbohrer Pisten Bully PB400w machines to its grooming fleet.  Each of the ski areas will get at least one winch cat allowing grooming to take place on steeper pitches across the mountains and delivering a corduroy experience to more advanced skiers and riders

Mr Coddington said the machines also included specialist terrain park building equipment which meant the ski areas could improve the way they built and maintained their terrain parks.

We have fantastic terrain parks at The Remarkables and Mt Hutt particularly, designed to create real progression from novice through to advanced levels and these new groomers will help deliver this.

This new fleet is part of NZSkis ongoing investment into Coronet Peak, Mt Hutt and The Remarkables. The company is driven by a passion for snowsports and committed to providing the best possible winter holiday experience for all its customers, he said.

The new machines are valued at approximately $550,000 apiece.

Reminder:  Early Bird Season Passes for Coronet Peak, Mt Hutt and The Remarkables are on sale until March 12.
