It just gets better at Coronet Peak
5th March 2009
Building from last years $30 million dollar investment in the spectacular new base facility and world class snowmaking system, Coronet Peak is making further enhancements to benefit 2009 season skiers and riders.
The mountain resort is further upgrading its childrens facilities and programmes and investing in two new state-of-the-art snow groomers to again improve on-trail conditions.
Hamish McCrostie, Ski Area Manager for Coronet Peak, said last years developments had elevated the resort to world class status and this years investment would continue to improve facilities.
This year were upgrading our childrens area to cater for babies as young as three months old right through to teenagers up to age 17. The fully licensed Skiwiland Early Learning Centre is a great option for families with young ones and our dedicated Snowsports programmes for youth will offer fantastic fun and learning for all ages.
The dedicated kids slope attached to the crche area will be doubled in size and feature a 24 metre Sun Kid surface conveyor lift designed especially for very young beginners.
Theres a lot more room now for the young ones to play around on and the new lift makes learning so much easier, said Mr McCrostie. Its also super user-friendly for little kids as the base of the new lift will be just metres away from the crche and not make any long slog with gear in arms up to the lift necessary.
Weve also appointed a new Childrens Snowsports Manager, Matt Lazell. Matts excited about joining the team and working to further raise the standards of our childrens facilities and programmes, he said.
The grooming fleet at Coronet Peak will also experience an upgrade with the arrival of two new snow groomers.
Weve invested in two PB600 series cats, one of which is an additional winch cat, bringing our fleet to four PB600 machines to complement our sophisticated snowmaking system. said Mr McCrostie.
Coronet Peak is also completing a new snowmaking reservoir, (89 million liters capacity) in Sarah Sue which will improve water stocks to enable better use of the fully automated snowmaking system across the entire mountain.
People heading to Coronet Peak this season will also enjoy affordable transport to the mountain. Return transport from the Queenstown Snow Centre and selected Queenstown accommodation providers to the base building will be available for only $10.
Were really pleased to offer affordable transport to our guests while developing a service that is environmentally more sustainable and makes getting to the mountain hassle free, said Mr McCrostie.
Reminder: Early Bird Season Passes for Coronet Peak, The Remarkables and Mt Hutt and are on sale until March 12.
