Massive Winter Storm Hits Mammoth Mountain

Mammoth Mountain, CA, USA Mammoth Mountain was just hit by a massive winter storm that has been hammering the Eastern Sierra with snow since Sunday, March 1, 2009.
The majority of the storm has passed, but not before the National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the area. This generous snowfall has pushed Mammoth well over its yearly average of 400 inches.
Over 43 inches of snow has fallen within the first 4 days of March, including 24 inches in 24 hours on 3/3/09-3/4/09.
Mammoth has received 418 inches of snowfall as of 3/4/09, surpassing the annual average of 400 inches.
Mammoth recorded the snowiest February in a decade with nearly 12 feet of snow falling on the mountain.
Mammoth Mountain currently has a base depth of 12-16 feet of snow.
Thanks to above average snowfall, Mammoth Mountain is scheduled to stay open at least through Memorial Day, if not longer.
