Queenstown ski areas encouraging kids onto the slopes

Future ski and snowboard stars will benefit from the most affordable childrens snowsports programmes in the Southern Lakes this winter.
NZSki is fostering the development of snowsports in the region by offering the best value programmes for children aged from three months through to 17 years at Coronet Peak and The Remarkables.
James Coddington, CEO of NZSki Ltd said the company was committed to encouraging young people to get outside and be active over the winter months.
Theres nothing like an invigorating day on the slopes to put a smile on your face and our youngsters should be encouraged to make the most of the stunning alpine environment on their doorsteps.
Our kids snowsports programmes are the most affordable in the region and are designed for young people of all ages to have fun in a friendly, supportive and safe learning environment. They are all full day programmes and include lunch which will make life easier for parents.
Coronet Peak and The Remarkables are both family focused mountains - these programmes reflect that commitment and guarantee the best value.
As well as having the best programmes, both ski areas have upgraded their facilities for children to cater for babies from just three months old right through to teenagers up to age 17.
At Coronet Peak the dedicated kids slope attached to the crche area will be doubled in size and features a 24 metre Sun Kid surface conveyor lift designed especially for very young beginners.
Matt Lazell, the new Childrens Snowsports Manager for Queenstown has been appointed to further develop and deliver a world class childrens Snowsports School.
Over at The Remarkables, riders and skiers will find the ground level of the base building fully renovated with bigger and better childrens facilities. The new facilities will compliment the dedicated beginners area with its three surface conveyor lifts and the specialized Kids Snowsports School. All children aged 10 and under receive free day lift passes.
The popular Kea mascot returns to the slopes this season. Shred the Kea is joined by his new friend Spike the Kiwi - both are looking forward to having some fun and getting their photos taken with the kids in the snow at both Coronet Peak and The Remarkables.
Coronet Peak and The Remarkables are scheduled to open on Saturday 6 June and Saturday 20 June respectively.

The Remarkables is made up of three basin, two of which are lift accessed. Shadow Basin, has open intermediate and advanced runs, Shadow Bowl and the Alta Chair have plenty of long, wide open beginner and intermediate runs.
