14th September 2006

Today Burton Snowboards announced its biggest move yet in the competitive snowboard world ? the creation of the Burton Global Open Series presented by Motorola. Competitors from around the world now have the opportunity to compete for over $700,000US in cash and prizes across all of the Burton Opens, including: the New Zealand Open, Australian Open, European Open, Nippon Open and US Open.
The Burton Opens are a part of the world?s largest collection of independent freestyle snowboarding events - The TTR World Snowboard Tour. This is great news for TTR competitors as riders now have the chance to win prestigious titles including the TTR World Champion title, the Global Open Championship title and take home a piece of the largest collective prize purse on record. The top overall male and female rider of the Global Open series will be awarded $100,000US each!
Burton will be launching www.opensnowboarding.com next week with the dates and locations of all of the Opens and to explain how the Global Open Champions will be selected.
According to Global Opens Events Manager Liam Griffin ?Burton is stoked to make its Global Open events part of the Ticket To Ride Tour because it supports TTR?s rider-driven mission and its goals for competitive snowboarding. The TTR is always looking for ways to give back to the riders in more impactful ways: helping create better events, investing greater resources in the sport and providing riders with the opportunity to earn bigger prize purses.?
