Mt Ruapehu receives between 60-70cm snow

Mt Ruapehu is enjoying the current cool temperatures with up to 60-70cm snow having fallen over the last couple of days. The Mt Ruapehu crew hiked up to the Hut Flat at Whakapapa this morning (Tuesday) to make the most of the new snow before snowboarding back down through the Rockgarden. The season is due to open on 20 June (Turoa) and 27 June (Whakapapa).
