Steve Gurney returns to the Mt. Hutt Peak 2 Pub
19th September 2006
Mt Hutt?s annual Peak 2 Pub multisport race for all abilities is already attracting a great field of competitors.Past winner (several times) Steve Gurney has confirmed his presence this year saying it?s a special event that he particularly enjoys.
?This race is relaxed and fun and offers something different to the norm. It?s a huge adrenalin rush in a very short space of time. The combination of the disciplines in this event is fantastic and I always look forward to competing in it. I was gutted to miss it last year due to illness and am looking forward to that competing in that special mountain atmosphere.?
Mt Hutt Ski Area Manager Dave Wilson and his wife Fiona will join Gurney on the start line.
?I?m sure we won?t see much of him after that but it?s fun to be able to enter the same race as one of the best endurance multi-sporters in the world.?
?This is a race for all abilities and I?m hoping lots of people who wouldn?t normally enter a multi-sport event are in training for this one.?
The ever popular Peak to Pub Race, now in its eighth year, will take place on Saturday 30 September, 2006.
The event kicks off at 2pm with a ski or snowboard from the top of Mt Hutt, followed by mountain biking down the 16km access road, culminating with a 10km run into Methven village to the iconic Blue Pub.
The race takes between 45 minutes to 2 hours to complete, so spectators should expect to cheer competitors over the line from 2:45pm. Early registrations are welcomed by email or on-line at http://www.nzski.com/guides/mthutt/documents/MH_Peak2Pub06_RegoForm.pdf or on the day at Sky High Caf? from 11am.
Richard Murphy, Mt Hutt Event Organiser for the race is looking forward to the Peak to Pub, saying it?s a great event to participate in or just watch.
?We want all levels of athletes to come along and race alongside talented multi-sporters and we invite spectators to join us at the finish line to cheer them home,? said Richard.
Organisers are hoping for a strong turnout of competitors, racing as individuals or in teams.
Race categories include open women, open men, veteran women and men, and teams of men, women or mixed.
Prizes up for grabs include Mt Hutt 2007 season ski passes for the top female and top male competitors. Other goodies and generously donated spot prizes include heliskis and balloon rides and much more.
Prize presentations and a race wrap party will be held at the Blue Pub from around 4pm onwards.
