It is 15 years since Quiksilver first opened its doors in the resort town famous for its awesome skiing and snowboarding terrain and just a year since the company premiered Travis Rices legendary Thats It, Thats All snowboard film to the world.

Mayor Geddes thanked Quiksilver, wished the staff and customers of the new store good luck for the season ahead and recounted a history of some 130 years that Aussies had been making visits to the region.

A dazzling fireworks display over Lake Wakatipu and Earnslaw Park to herald the beginning of the American Express Queenstown Winter Festival was the perfect culmination to the evening, with guests hitting up nearby Prime Bar which boasts views of Lake Wakatipu and the famous mountains.

Quiksilver is the official clothing sponsor of the American Express Queenstown Winter Festival providing Festival staff and volunteers with uniforms.

A special, special thank you goes out to Lion Nathan Breweries who provided beverages and helped make the occasion, and all those who turned out on the evening.
