Special day out planned for kids at Coronet Peak

7th July 2009

The place to be for the young and the young at heart this Sunday (12 July) is Coronet Peak for the Kids Day Out - the ultimate childrens party in the snow.

Popular childrens musician Craig Smith will entertain on the deck with a range of well known and original childrens songs.

The party atmosphere will be enhanced with free Happy Faces face painting on the deck from 1pm to 4pm and a sausage sizzle for lunch from 12pm to 2pm.

Kids are encouraged to bring their buckets and spades and enter the snow sculpture competition between 12pm and 12.30pm to win some great prizes.

Meanwhile much loved mountain mascots, Spike the Kiwi and Shred the Kea, will be out and about getting their photos taken with the kids and playing up to their usual tricks.

Ski Area Manager Hamish McCrostie said it would be a really fun and relaxed day out for families.

We wanted to put on a special day for the kids during the school holidays, he said. There will be lots of entertainment on and off the snow so were encouraging parents to bring their children up for a great day on the slopes.

Mr McCrostie said Coronet Peak offered excellent snowsports programmes for children aged from six through to 17 years, starting at 10am daily.

He said the programmes encouraged maximum participation on the snow with fellow skiers or snowboarders of similar ability.

We have the most affordable snowsports programmes in the region as well as providing free day lift passes to children aged six and under, he said.

Plus, our fully licensed Skiwiland Early Learning Centre caters for children as young as three months old and provides fun activities both indoors and outdoors, he said. Parents can enjoy the slopes safe in the knowledge that their children are in the best care and having fun.
