The sun shines on K2’s 22nd Birthday!!

14th July 2009

Bluebird conditions set the scene for K2s 22nd birthday celebrations at Snow Park on Saturday and continued through to Saturday evening as the Rail Jam kicked off for this special night riding event.  The fun free flowing jam format ensured that every competitor who registered scored a prize!

While Wanaka was coated in the inversion layer, Snow Park was basking in bluebird heaven.  The celebrations started at 10am with free demos of the K2 2010 snowboard range. NZ K2 Team Riders rode the park testing out the cool features that would make up the course for the evening rail jam.

The Rail Jam kicked off around 5.30pm, with over 50 competitors heading to the top of the park to show off their skills in the one hour jam.
Judges were posted around the course, handing out coloured cards that determined best trick, or best effort on any one of the 12 possible features.
Onlookers from the woolshed balcony whooped it up as the competitors shot thru the K2 tent to hit the last feature, continuing on up the chair lift to do it all again.

Every competitor was in the draw to win a choice of either the K2 Va Va Voom or the Dub Dub Dub, with a winners name drawn from a K2 bag.  A Paper, Scissor, Rock off battle would then determine who would take home the other cool K2, Smith and Sessions prizes bindings, goggles, board bags, t-shirts, polo shirts, caps, beanies, stickers, key chains and some original graffiti art!

12 year old Jack Murata couldnt believe his luck after beating out 18 year old Jacob Buck in the paper scissor rock off for the K2 Bindings and then having his name pulled out of the bag by NZ K2 team rider Heath Patterson, to take home the Va Va Voom as well.  Jack who was on a holiday with his family from Australia was ecstatic at his double win.

A sudden death Paper Scissor rock off with the female competitors resulted in Olivia Kalb winning the K2 Virtue Bindings.

It was an awesome event a big thanks to the crew at Snow Park, all the competitors, the supporters and the K2 Team riders who helped make this event the success that it was!

There is still a chance for all the competitors from the Rail Jam to win the Dub Dub Dub.  Details will be on www.snowflick.co.nz from Tuesday 14 July.
