Coronet Peak Closes After Record 2006 Winter Season

2nd October 2006

The 2006 winter season at Coronet Peak Ski Area came to a close yesterday, 109 days after opening on June 15.

Ski area manager Duncan Smith said it was a season of contrasts which achieved record visitor numbers.

?It was a superb season.  We enjoyed excellent winter conditions throughout June, July and August and then went through a dramatic change to full on spring in late August.  Since then warm spring weather conditions have resulted in snow fast disappearing from the lower areas of the mountain despite still excellent conditions higher up.?

The Queenstown ski season continues at The Remarkables where good spring skiing conditions prevail.  The tentative closing date for The Remarkables is October 8.
