17th March 2010

Valmalenco, Italy Juliane Bray didnt waste any time after her competition in the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, hopping a plane for Italy and heading straight back into competition at a World Cup in Valmalenco where she successfully landed the run she had planned for the Olympics and took fourth place.

Valmalenco was choice, said Bray .

It was nice to be under less pressure and I did really well by landing the run I had planned for the Olympics.

I just missed out on the podium in this World Cup.  The three girls on the podium were in the finals in Vancouver so I have proven to myself that I could have made the finals at the Olympics if I had not crashed.

Unlike the mens competition where the eighth ranked rider of the qualification won, the top ladies of the qualifiers were able to put their stamp on the finals however, with reversed ranking order.

In the end, Australias Holly Crawford, who took eighth at the Olympic Games, won the second to last halfpipe competition of the 2010 LG Snowboard FIS World Cup. Hollys huge hang time inside a solid Lien air, Backside air, Front 5 to Japan, finishing up with a front 7 to a Cab 3 combo earned her the top spot on the podium.

Ursina Haller (SUI) and Mercedes Nicoll (CAN) rounded out the podium in second and third respectively.

Bray has headed to Molina where she will compete in the first ever World Cup finals to be held in Spain. The ladies Halfpipe competition is scheduled for Saturday, 20 March (Sunday 21 March NZT).
