3rd September 2010
The Black Diamond Big Mountain Competition hosted by Temple Basin is on this weekend and with fresh snow and a top field of fierce competitors the event is sure to be a banger.

Athletes are eager to prove their skill and bravery in one of the worlds greatest big mountain venues as cash prizes and bragging rights are up for grabs
Local skiers including Fraser McDougall, Roy Schott, Cam McDemid and Sam Smoothy make up a solid kiwi contingent aiming to claim the Black Diamond title. Many of the top competitors from the K2 Big Mountain CHILL Series are returning to the area to lodge their bid for the title including the winner of the mens snowboard division Scott Heale and the crowd pleasing Cursor ski team from Austria.
Temple Basin, located high up in the main divide of the rugged Southern Alps, has received 40cm of fresh snow overnight and more is forecasted before clearing for the start of competition on Saturday. Mountain Manager and kiwi big mountain legend, Todd Windle, said that the conditions are the best theyve been all season, and if there was ever a time to hold a comp it would be now. Competition organisers are equally as excited as the combination of conditions and quality of athletes looks set to provide a great spectacle and superb event Ryan Charmley.
