Kiwi junior snowboarders gain success in USA event
31st January 2007
New Zealand?s development snowboard team met with success at the Revolution Tour event in Colorado this week.Wanaka?s Will Harris led the way with sixth place in the Boardercross competition while New Plymouth?s Ellie Richards was fifth in the women?s event at Copper Mountain.
Christy Prior was the other Kiwi to grab a top-10 placing, finishing fifth in the Slopestyle contest behind four Americans.
Harris impressed in the time trials with a solid run to test the leaders, qualifying fourth and finishing a creditable sixth in strong competition.
Richards was in excellent form but was on the receiving end of a shove during her semifinal that cost her a place in the final, claiming fifth place overall in the minor final.
The Slopestyle standards were of the highest quality with none of the New Zealand men making it through qualifying. Prior threw down a clean run to finish in fifth place in her first international competition.
Again the standard was outstanding in the Halfpipe competition with no Kiwis making through in the top six women or top 12 men to the finals. World junior champion Bex Sinclair did not compete after suffering concussion after a crash in training two days before the competition.
The development team compete in two FIS Boardercross competitions this weekend in Colorado.
