Treble Cone Spends on New Season Improvements

27th February 2007

Treble Cone, winner of the 2006 NZ Ski Area Service Award (Snow.co), has invested $1.1 million on new developments for the coming southern hemisphere winter

This winter guests can enjoy further trail enhancements in the Saddle Basin, increasing snowmaking facilities and complimentary guided tours to ensure better navigation around the mountain.

Area Manager, Jackie Van der Voort, said that the company?s current No.1 focus is offering wider groomed trails to ensure guests are more comfortable on our mountain and ensuring high quality services for skiers and snowboarders.

Major earthworks is currently being completed on Raffills Run in the Saddle Basin, named after founding director Murray Raffills, providing a more accessible entrance from Upper High Street, with adjustment of camber and installation of snow fencing to capture more snow on this popular trail.

?This will vastly change intermediate skiing on the Saddle Basin, where trails in the past were more confined and technical?, said Ms Van der Voort. ?With possibly the most scenic views on the mountain, this trail will now offer a more spacious and comfortable groomed 2.5km ski or ride to the bottom of the new Saddle Quad chairlift?.

The company continues to annually invest in snowmaking plant, with a total of 30 snow guns producing man made snow on the Home Basin when conditions allow.

?More snowmaking facilities will help ensure the ski area opens 26 June with a good snow base ready for July School holidays?, says Ms Van der Voort.

Treble Cone has also developed a guided tour service for intermediate skiers and boarders to help with familiarization and assist with navigation around the mountain. Advanced skiers and riders can also take advantage of the new guiding service with afternoon tours to the Motatapu Chutes.

Other improvements include a new sewerage system, and commitment to sustainable tourism with car pooling, recycling and energy saving initiatives.

Treble Cone is the South Island of New Zealand?s largest ski area at 550 hectares and boasts the longest groomed trails in Australasia. Treble Cone offers a premium winter snow experience and relaxing summer alpine activities.
