TNT Freestyle launches Academy Programme

5th April 2007

Following on from a successful introduction season in 2006, TNT, the Remarkables based Free Ski and Snowboard team created and run under the auspices of the Queenstown Alpine Ski team, is this year establishing an academy programme to be run in conjunction with Wakatipu High School.

?Given the success of other academy sports run through Wakatipu High School (tennis and alpine skiing) it was only natural to add snowboarding and free skiing? said Mark Taylor.
?With the new developments at the Up and Go terrain park at the Remarkables, TNT in 2007 will just get bigger and better? said Chairman of the Queenstown Alpine Ski Team, Mark Taylor.

The Remarkables has announced a new layout for skiers and boarders this season including two 30m wide, benched jump and rail lines ? twice the size of the previously existing Up and Go Terrain Park.  The redesigned terrain park will provide improved intermediate and advanced lines and with eleven new automated snowmaking guns also being installed, as well as new grooming capability there will be great terrain park conditions from the start of the season.
The programmes run by TNT include a school holiday camp in July and one, two or, in the case of the new Academy, four days training and coaching per week throughout the season.

A line up of some of New Zealand?s leading free skiers and snowboarders will be coaching the team including Laura Woerlee, Dan Grenville, Ryan Hall and Richard Innes.   In addition the Remarkables Park Life team will be assisting the coaches and mentoring the athletes.
?The emphasis will be developing the attributes that successful athletes need such as being able to create a successful team environment, fitness, goal setting, personal discipline, dedication and attention to detail?.

?With the Remarkables Ski Area management right behind TNT and the support of businesses such as Alta and Outside Sports, the focus is going to be on developing the TNT Freestyle Team and this program to be the best of its kind in New Zealand? said Mark Taylor.
