NORTHSTAR-AT-TAHOE RESORT WINS INDUSTRY SAFETY AWARD

11th May 2007

TRUCKEE, Calif. ? May, 2007 ? The National Ski Areas Association (NSAA) announced at its National Convention and Tradeshow held at the La Quinta Resort & Club, Palm Springs, Calif. this week, that Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort is among the eight winners of its annual Heads Up National Ski Area Safety Awards. Northstar? Resort was recognized for implementing the ?Best Safety Week Program? during National Safety Week, January 13-19, 2007.

?We are pleased to have been recognized for our efforts during National Safety Week this season, and it is an honor to accept this award from our peers for the programs we implemented this year. Our goal is to continue to educate and raise awareness among our guests about the importance of safety on the slopes throughout the entire season, not just one week,? said Tim Yates, Northstar Resort?s risk manager. ?I am very proud of the Northstar Resort team for their continued commitment to the safety and well-being of our guests.?

Northstar Resort?s Safety Week program consisted of daily activities designed to complement the resort?s constant commitment to educate and raise the awareness of skiers and riders of the responsibility and smart style safety codes, as well as how to be safe on the mountain when participating in snow sports. Activities included geocaching treasure hunts that took place around the mountain with the use of Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers, prizes for those who were able to recite one of the responsibility or smart style codes, and daily raffles of helmets, safety pads, jackets, and other apparel.

Northstar Resort?s safety mascot, Captain Safety and the Safety Squad, also made regular visits to the mountain, passing out logo temporary tattoos, and helping educate guests about the importance of safety on the slopes. Children ages 5-12 were also invited to participate in a poster competition during Safety Week. Each poster entry received a complimentary child lift ticket.

In addition to guest-focused activities, Northstar Resort staff members were actively involved with Safety Week initiatives. This season, the resort?s mountain safety team experienced great success with its speed awareness program, finding that taking the ?education? vs. instant enforcement route was popular not only among guests, but the resort staff. Guests were invited to participate in safety education by guessing the speed at which they were traveling down a ski trail. When they were able to guess within 5 mph of their speed, they were rewarded with a coupon valid for a complimentary cup of hot cocoa. All guests were reminded to watch their speed, and through this education, were better able to understand the speed at which they were traveling, and the importance of staying in control and skier/rider safety on the slopes.

Ski resorts across the nation documented their efforts during National Safety Week and submitted their efforts to the NSAA. According to NSAA, each season the awards recognize those resorts that have done an outstanding job of educating employees and guests about skiing and snowboarding responsibly.
