White trails at Coronet Peak

3rd June 2007

Queenstowners woke to a crisp clear day and a dusting of snow coating Coronet Peak this morning.

Fresh snow fell at the Queenstown ski area during Saturday and snowmaking machines are now pumping snow across the main trails.

The wintry change occurred on Friday and dropping temperatures have been welcomed by ski area staff as well as snow sport lovers.

?Our snow guns have been firing since late yesterday afternoon and we?re happy to get underway,? said Ski Area Manager Hamish McCrostie.

Mr McCrostie is expecting temperatures to remain low for the foreseeable future allowing snowmakers to generate snow at full capacity.

?The forecast is looking good with conditions remaining cold and more natural snow expected in the next few days.  In the meantime, we?ll be making snow 24/7 as conditions permit.?

Coronet Peak is scheduled to open next Saturday, June 9.
