Freeze TV Episode 3 - Coming this week

16th July 2007

Latest search and rescue technology, ski boot buying 101 and skiing round the world in 365 days are just some of the stories covered in this week?s Freeze TV episode three.

With ever-increasing snow enthusiasts heading off-piste to discover the thrills of freeriding the risk of avalanches and resulting fatalities is ever increasing. Transceivers work well to find those buried as long as the people using them are skilled in using them. Now transceiver technology is being transferred to the air through helicopters. Freeze TV takes a look at this simple but innovative search and rescue device that will improve avalanche rescue.

Skiing and boarding gear does not come cheap so when you?re ready to pay out big dollars to kit yourself out you want to know you?re making the right purchase.  Freeze TV speaks to specialist boot technician Don Reid who gives some helpful pointers on what to consider when choosing a ski boot

Around the world in 365 days ? on skis. Three ambitious Swedes started their year-long adventure in Greenland with its awe-inspiring mountains and glaciers before moving on to Iceland, Australia and New Zealand and they are only a third of a way through their journey.  Next Jan, Jocke and Richard head to Chile and overland to Bolivia and the USA.  It?s about living the dream and their personal quest to combine their passions of skiing and travel.

A bit of Anti-Freeze action sees New Zealand?s first televised Dyno Competition with local climbers defying gravity as they leap up the rock face from one hold to the next; and Tori Beattie chats with Kiwi Olympic skier, Nicola Campbell about her change in discipline to the world of freeskiing and skier-x.

Freeze TV airs on Wednesdays at 7.30pm on Sky Sport 2, followed by Thursdays at 9.30pm on Sky Sport 1 and Prime TV on Saturday at 12.30pm. Australian viewers also get in on the action when the programme airs on Fuel TV. It is also the winter programme of choice on the Air New Zealand international network as well as on Freedom Air.

Freeze TV is produced by Wanaka-based company Vizual PhotoMedia and is sponsored by Holden, Coronet Peak, The Remarkables, Cardrona Alpine Resort, Treble Cone, Mt Ruapehu, Perisher Blue, Icebreaker, Volkl and ROJO.
