New Zealand?s top freestyle skiers and snowboarders provided thrillsand skills at last night?s (2 August) Parklife Invitational Street Jamheld in downtown Queenstown. The event was a real crowd pleaser according to Youth Action Coordinator for Coronet Peak and The Remarkables, Josh Clark.
?About 3000 people over the evening got up close and personal with theriders who were competing for a total cash prize pool of nearly $6K.?
The competition took place in lower Brecon Street after a custom-builttwo rail feature was assembled yesterday with 30 cubic metres of snowtrucked in from The Remarkables ski area.
Jessie Wilkinson from Wanaka took first place in the Open Men's Snowboard division, earning himself $2000.
Callie Conghan, from Queenstown and the Parklife Rider Team, took out the Open Women?s Snowboard title, winning $1000.
Jonas Marcinto from Idaho, USA won the Best Skier division and took home $1000.
Best thrills were a 270 spin onto and through the kink by Jeremy Thorns, another Parklife Rider Team member and a front board 270 off by Shelly Gotlieb who each won $750 for their efforts. Back from injury and MC duties at last year?s event, the Parklife team?s Nick Hyne blew minds with consistently amazing maneuvers throughout the night.
Best spill was Joe Winkerei?s stack when he ?teeth'd? the rail.
Carl Dunham & Sean Gargz ran the microphone and kept the crowdamped and informed of who was stomping while DJs Raf Star and Sammy G kept the bangin? tunes working to the visual display. Export Gold Thirst Fighters and the J?germeister girls mingled with the crowd providing product samples and refreshments.
Josh put out a MASSIVE shout out to the affected businesses, theterrain park crew and volunteers who helped out throughout the night.
?They made this event possible and the huge success it is. Big ups to all of them for throwing down a wicked event and making this happen. Lots of riders told me that they were especially pleased with the setup this year.?
The event was streamed live via snow.co.nz and a highlights package will be streamed more widely later this week.
