New Zealand's top Freestyle FMX rider at Cardrona

Luke Smith, New Zealand?s top freestyle FMX rider, will be competing in the FMX Big Air on his motorbike at the Coke Zero Cardrona Games. Smith performs around the world with the Crusty Demons and is one of the few riders in the world who can do a back flip.

?I?ll be looking to see if a back flip is possible with the snow landing, they do it in the US Winter X Games so I reckon it?s doable?, says Smith.

A snow based landing is being constructed with the ramp being of metal construction. The jump itself will be 23 metres in length and riders will being doing tricks 12 metres into the air. The ramp is near the Cardrona ?archway? with the landing near the learners area.

Smith will be competing against other riders for a prize pool of $5000 at 12.30 ? 1.30 on the 2nd,3rd and 4th September.

Freestyle skiing, snowboarding, motorbikes (FMX) and snowmobiling mixed with live music and top athletes from around the world make up the Coke Zero Cardrona Games, the largest snow sports event in New Zealand, held at Cardrona Alpine Resort on 2-4 September. Olympic and X Games athletes will battle it out for prize money of more than $45,000.
