Snowmobiles, Motobikes, Skiers and Snowboarders take to the air at Cardrona

It was big air galore at Cardrona today as athletes from a number of different sports showed how to get big air in their own unique ways.
Chris Brown jumped his snowmobile over buildings on a custom made 25 metre jump and an uphill 20m gap jump all within metres of thousands of spectators basking in the sunshine.
Luke Smith and Rob Turner tested out the 15m metal ramp and snow landing in preparation for their competition on Tuesday. Turner showed some real skill in recovering from some spills with Smith effortlessly landing the jumps.
Skiers and Snowboarders showed why Skier and Boarder Cross are such popular Olympic Sports with some close racing over bumps, berms and jumps. David Speiser from Germany won the male Boarder Cross, and Doresia Krings from Austria won the Female Boarder Cross. Errol Kerr from the States won the male Skier Cross and Noriko Fukushima won the female Skier Cross. Each receiving NZ$2500 in prize money.
Two New Zealanders got third places in a tough international field. Phil Dominick and Ellie Richards in the male and female Boarder Cross respectively showed what talent New Zealand has in snowboarding.
Monday is the Ski and Snowboard half pipe, Tuesday is the Slopestyle competition. Every day the Snowmobile and FMX Big Air will happen at 12.30 and Salmonella Dub DJ Sound System will be playing most of the day.
