Coke Zero Cardrona Games - Local Men win Half Pipe, First FMX Back Flip on Snow Landing

3rd September 2007

The two local boys Mitchell Brown (NZ) and Jossi Wells (NZ) won on their home turf against some strong international competition in snowboard and ski half pipe at the Coke Zero Cardrona Games. Elijah Teter (USA) was just beaten out of first place by Brown in an exciting Final.

Brown did a frontside ten (three full turns) on his first hit which set the pace for a great run. Wells showed some real height going 15 ft high from the top of the half pipe wall in qualifying before finishing off his final runs with nines (2 and a half turns).

Lindsey Jacobellis (USA) won the women?s snowboard half pipe. Interestingly Teter and her won the Snowboard Junior World Championships 2002 at Cardrona, a competition that Mitchell Brown also did well in. Local women Kendall Brown came third.

Luke Smith achieved an Australasian first with a FMX back flip onto a snow landing. He also jumped the longest ever backflip (26m) on any surface in New Zealand.

Chris Brown and Paul Thacker continued to wow the crowd with snowmobile big air all round the base of Cardrona.

Salmonella Dub DJ Sound System kept Cardrona rocking to tunes from their new album released two days ago as well as some of their oldies.

Tuesday is the Ski and Board Slopestyle competition. The Snowmobile and FMX Big Air will happen at 12.30 and Salmonella Dub DJ Sound System will be playing most of the day.
