Mature Snowboarders Tear Up Turoa - Comp VIDEO

5th September 2007

Under perfect blue skies and great snow conditions, more than 70 ?mature? snowboarders competed in this year?s Drambuie Snowboard Masters at Turoa yesterday. To be eligible competitors must be at least 30 years of age.

Mt Ruapehu Marketing Manager and mature snowboarder, Mike Smith said it was the best snowboard masters yet. ?Conditions were epic yesterday with blue skies and excellent snow. It was a great way to celebrate the start of spring.?

Competing in boardercross and in five year age brackets, competitors came from all across the North Island. There was even an international flavour with the two oldest competitors coming from Slovakia and 61 year old Dick Schultz from Lake Tahoe in California.

?There was fierce competition across all the age divisions, but really it?s about having a great time on the snow with people who share a common passion,? Mike Smith said.

Skiers also get their chance at Masters in two weeks with the Icebreaker North Island Ski Masters being held at Turoa on September 15th.

Thanks to: Drambuie, DVS Shoes, The Snowcentre, Smith Optics, Sessions Outwear and Ride Snowboards.
