Broken River Ski Field still OPEN!
26th October 2007
Broken River Ski Club is the last ski field open in all of New Zealand for the 2007 Ski Season. The field situated in the Craigieburner Range on the South island is reporting the best ski conditions of the entire season and plan on being open the 26th ?28th of October.?Since the 1st of October BR has received over 2.2 meters of snow making our conditions exceptional.? Reports Patroller Isaac Rogers. ?We should be seeing some more snow come our way this week and clearing by Friday for another great weekend in the mountains.?
This late blast of snow is welcome to the field staff and the skiing community. Broken River has been able to push back their closing day by several weeks due to the ample amount of snow and increased skier visits.
?Having this much snow this late in the season has been great for us. The excellent snow conditions combined with the support from members and the skiing public has made October the best month of the entire season,? says Mountain Manger Laurie Frankcom.
Many people who were at the ski field on Labour Day weekend felt as though the conditions were reminiscent of August conditions and could not believe it was mid October.
