Mammoth Mountain Extends Season One Week

27th May 2008

Mammoth Mountain, CA Skiers and snowboarders have one more week to enjoy spring conditions on Mammoth Mountain. Cool temperatures and the foot of fresh snow that fell on the Eastern Sierra resort over the Memorial Holiday weekend allowed resort operators to make the call to stay open until Sunday, June 1.

After an unusually dry spring season, the decision was made to close after skiing and riding on Monday, May 26, but Mother Nature had another idea. A winter-like storm blanketed much of California over the Memorial Day weekend, bringing over a foot of fresh snow over three days. This welcome touch of winter gave holiday skiers and snowboarders fresh powder to enjoy and prompted Mammoths management team to extend the season another week.

Mammoth is well-know for long seasons, always staying open well beyond other California ski resorts. I know this is very last minute, but so was the snow, said Mammoth Mountain Vice President Bill Cockroft of the decision to extend the season and keep the Mammoth tradition strong.

Mammoth is currently reporting a base depth of 2-5 feet of snow and legendary spring conditions. Beginning Tuesday, May 27, Broadway Express, Facelift and Chair 23 will open 7:30am-1pm. For a current snow report and the latest operating status, please visit www.MammothMountain.com.

Mammoths Sierra Star Golf Course is now open for the season. This is just in time to sweeten the allure of spring in Mammoth by delivering skiing and golf, two of Californias most loved pastimes, within minutes of each other.
