Inaugural Ski Film Competition in Methven
8th July 2008
This winter Mt Hutt will be captured on film as never before in a unique new film making challenge.Thousands of dollars worth of prizes are up for grabs in the film making competition that is open to families, schools, amateurs and professionals in a movie making extravaganza organised by the Methven Heritage Projects Ski Committee.
David Wilson, Mt Hutt Ski Area Manager and chairperson of the committee, says competitors need to make a 3 minute skiing or boarding movie on the topic A Day on Big Mountain.
Competitors can either make an action movie, or enter the random challenge section which is going to be a lot of fun and really get people thinking, he said. And, theres a great prize package in place with Mt Hutt season passes, credits for schools and fantastic ski and boarding gear on offer.
Any funds raised will go towards the Heritage Project and the planned $4million re-development of the Mt Hutt Memorial Hall, which will include the establishment of New Zealands first interactive Snowsports Experience as well as upgraded community facilities.
This competition recognises what the heritage project is all about; capturing local stories and celebrating this area, and were proud to get behind it.
Whats being created in Methven is unique, not only will the Grain and Snow Centre be home to the national collection of snowsports heritage and a visitor attraction and education centre for the region, but the upgraded hall is going to be a greatly improved facility for the Methven community.
Project Manger Roxane Gajadhar agrees: This year, instead of running a film festival showing films from other places, we want to put our local area on the movie making map, and get aspiring film makers out in the elements to celebrate their local environment.
Finalists will be screened, and winners announced at the Big Mountain Film Competition Awards Night at the Mt Hutt Memorial Hall in Methven on October 3, 2008. Winners are also likely to be recognised on nzski.com.
I cant guarantee fame and fortune, but this is a great opportunity for people to grab a camera and a couple of mates and get out amongst it to have some fun! Theres also every chance some of these films might find a place at the new centre.
We are thrilled with the support Mt Hutt, and the other sponsors K2 and the Blue Pub are giving the Heritage Project, and the competition. I cant wait to see the results.
The rules are straight forward. To be eligible films must be shot at Mt Hutt this season and handed in to the Snow Centre in Methven before September 1, 2008.
