Great racing during penultimate snowboard race

12th August 2008

45 snowboarders lined up for yesterdays Steelworx Snowboard Series at Mt Hutt as the event goes from strength to strength in popularity.

Action in the hardboot section

Race coordinator Richard Murphy said a good hard snowpack made for excellent conditions that allowed the racers to really push themselves.

Once again it was a great day on the snow and fast times reflected the conditions.

The mens pro hardboot race saw some stiff competition with Masashi (55.32 secs) coming out on top, while Kogita (1:13.62) managed to out-pace the others in the pro women's class.

The pro mens softboot comp was easily won by Koji Mitsuyasu (1:05.76) and the women's field was demolished by Aoi Ishinaka (1:06.53).

The snowboard race series is sponsored by Steelworx Bar and Big Al's Snowhop, both local Methven businesses.

The next and final race is on Monday, 18th August.
