Snow dump for Queenstown ski areas

16th August 2008

Snow fall to lake level yesterday has brought smiles to the faces of skiers and snowboarders in Queenstown, many of whom are enjoying a fantastic, blue ski powder day at Coronet Peak and The Remarkables.

Both premier ski areas benefited with Coronet Peak receiving 15 centimetres on top of a metre base and The Remarkables 10 centimetres to add to its base of 1 metre 20.

Coronet Peak ski area manager Hamish McCrostie says theres fantastic skiing and riding across the entire mountain.

Its vintage Coronet Peak, it doesnt get much better this.  Today theres an awesome powder day atmosphere everyones carving it up and having a ball.

Over at The Remarkables, manager Ross Lawrence is seeing the same kind of grins.

Its such a buzz to look around and see The Remarkables, Coronet Peak, Queenstown and the entire Wakatipu Basin just blanketed in snow.

The conditions are superb with great snow everywhere at the Remarks.

Conditions are clear and cold today but those driving up the mountains are advised to take extreme care.  Chains are to be fitted on all 2WD and 4WD vehicles.
